I’m thrilled to share today’s guest with you. He’s been called America’s Most Famous Farmer. He is an innovator of organic farming, an author, and a change maker. He is Joel Salatin!
Joel is a third generation ‘beyond organic’ farmer. He and his family own and operate Polyface Farms in Virginia’s Shenandoah. Polyface Farms produces salad bar beef, pig-aerator pork, pastured poultry and forage-based rabbits – directly marketing everything to 5,000 families, 50 restaurants and 10 retail outlets.
Joel, and Polyface Farms, have been featured in numerous food documentaries, news and magazine articles as well as in Michael Pollan’s New York Times bestselling books The Omnivore’s Dilemma and Food Inc.
In this interview, Joel Shares tips from his book You Can Farm: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Start & Succeed in a Farming Enterprise. A prolific writer, Joel has penned nine books to date that include how-to and big picture themes which we touch upon.
If you’re interested in making more of a profit in your farming enterprise or if you would like to hear how to be a price maker rather than a price taker, this is a great interview for you!
This is a rich interview and I was humbled talking to him – awed by his amazing knowledge and impassioned way of expressing his point of view. I have since gone back and listened to it several times, myself, and always find a new gem of information to take away!
I really enjoyed hearing how Joel grew his business, what he wants his legacy to be and what he feels are great opportunities for future generations.
I hope you enjoy this also!
